Overheard in my living room...

Daughter's Friend A: I liked Twilight, but there are better books.
Daughter's Friend B: Yeah, I really like Evermore.
Daughter's Friend A: Me, too!

Nice to know these girls have good taste in reading material!

Something, Maybe by Elizabeth Scott

Let me start by saying I'm a big fan of Elizabeth Scott. I enjoyed Bloom. I loved Perfect You. But Something, Maybe is my favorite so far.

Hannah wants to blend into the woodwork, which isn't easy to do when your dad runs a Hugh Hefner-esque empire and lives in a castle with his favorite "girls" and your mom is a former "girl", whose current job is chatting via webcam in lingerie. Except blending into the woodwork isn't getting Hannah noticed by her crush, Josh.

Something, Maybe is funny and sweet. I put it down to eat a couple slices of pizza and couldn't wait to get back to it. It's out now in hardcover. Don't wait for the paperback. Get it from your library or buy it now.

A Lesson in Green*

Should be green:

Should not be green:

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

* I wasn't going to do this today since I've done it for the past few years and I'm afraid it's gotten old. But you know what? It never gets old to me!

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

Not only is the book extremely well-written, but I was on the edge of my seat from the very first chapter. The Forest of Hands and Teeth is in turn scary, sweet, gruesome, and beautiful. And, just, oh Travis! Definitely on my shortlist for favorite book of 2009.

Good News!

My son was accepted into Maine Maritime Academy! As you might have guessed by the exclamation marks, I'm pretty stoked about this. Not only will he be attending his dad's alma mater and returning to the state where he was born, but he'll be leaving behind a bedroom that will make a great office.

The Case of the Missing Blogger

I know. I haven't been around much, but there isn't much to tell. MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY is with my new editor right now, so in the meantime I've been thinking about additional changes and picking at BREAKING RULE #2. I've been cleaning my house, playing with my dog, watching makeover shows on HGTV, messing around on Facebook, and daydreaming about moving to another country where I will do nothing but sit on my porch overlooking the Pacific Ocean and write YA novels.

I'll try to update more often. Really, I will. Okay, probably not as much as I should, but I hope you'll stick around anyway.

By the way, Tessie has her own little corner of the Internet. She's even got her own blog.

(She'll probably update more than me, too.)
