Me, while waiting for the rain to let up outside Publix:
"We could make a run for it. After all, we're not made of sugar. We're made of.... awesome. And awesome doesn't melt."
Speaking of awesome, if you've read Diana Peterfreund's Secret Society Girl and Under The Rose then get yourself to your favorite bookstore immediately and buy Rites of Spring (Break). I got it today. I read it today. I. Loved. It. And if I have any complaint at all, it's that now I have to wait for the next book. Gah!
(By the way, if you haven't read the first two books in the series, now is the perfect time to buy all three books at once. Because once you start, you will want to read them all. I'm just sayin'.)

Something fun
Since my brain is the consistency of oatmeal tonight, I decided to take a break from writing and wordle instead:
Also, I have a recommendation. I'm going to start out by saying I am not a huge fan of vampire novels. And as much as I admire and respect Stephenie Meyer, I did not fall in love with her Twilight series. I am neither Team Edward nor Team Jacob and most of the time Bella drives me insane.
So. With all that in mind, I was reluctant when I picked up Evernight by Claudia Gray. But I work in a bookstore and when someone asks me if I can recommend something for someone who loves Twilight, I wanted to see if Claudia's book would fit the bill.
It did... and then some.
Bianca is enrolled at Evernight Academy when her parents take teaching positions at the school. She is less than thrilled about it and wants to run away when she meets Lucas, a fellow student. Since I won't spoil it, I'll just say the secrets between them put a cool spin on a vampire tale. And put me firmly in Team Lucas.
According to Claudia's website, the next book in her four-book series is due in winter 2008. So after you've devoured the last in the Twilight series come August, this is a great next series to get into.
I'm definitely looking forward to the next one!

New Beat Union video
Yeah, I know. This has nothing to do with writing. But these guys are so amazing I want everyone to know about them.
(And I still think Davey would make a great Noah.)

Something is very, very wrong...
When I got home from work today, there was something strange about my son. He's a teenager, so grunting, groaning, and shambling about aren't unusual. But there was so much blood...
(Mine, by the way, is the one being consumed.)

Bits and Pieces
I don't know if you know this, but I have a message board. You can get there by following the link over there in the sidebar. On the message board, you'll find the place where I'm attempting to keep all my recommendations in one place; a forum for chitchat; a music forum; and a place to ask me questions. Now, I realize I'm not a wildly famous author yet (a girl can dream) but I do know a little something about writing and selling a novel. For example:
Q: Trish, is it true all young adult authors are wealthy beyond their wildest dreams?
A: Yes. My husband just likes having van windows that don't roll up if they're down or down when they're up. And I live for haggling over computer time with a pair of teenagers. Glamorous is the life of a YA writer.
No, sadly, only some young adult authors are wildly rich. Take, for example, Meg Cabot. She swims in a hot tub filled with twenty dollar bills and has a cabana boy who follows her around with a parasol and sunscreen.
Okay, no. I'm making that up. But that does bring me to a recommendation that I'll post here and in the forum.
Airhead by Meg Cabot.
Now, I've got nothing against Meg, but I can only think of a handful of her titles I really loved. Maybe it's because I'm jealous of her cabana boy, or because her agent rejected my book in twenty-seven minutes flat. (Which reminds me: Thank you! Otherise I wouldn't have found the amazingly awesome Daphne Unfeasible!) In any case, when I picked up Airhead, I was not prepared to love it. But I did.
It's the story of Emerson Watts, a high school junior, who takes her younger sister to a concert at the newest megastore. While there, an accident happens and Emerson wakes up in the body of supermodel Nikki Howard, who was also at the event. How? Why? It would be spoiling it to give it away. But I will say that the hijinx that ensue after it happens are hilarious. And, there's a sequel in the works. I can't wait. Seriously.
I also recommend Goy Crazy by Melissa Schorr, which made me laugh out loud, and the latest in the Luxe series, Rumors by Anna Godbersen.

Trish Recommends...
How to Be Bad is a collaborative effort between E. Lockhart, Sarah Mlynowski, and Lauren Myracle about three girls from the Florida panhandle, who take a road trip to Miami, meeting some interesting characters and having some adventure, along the way. As you might already know, I like all things road trip, so I had a feeling I was going to love this. Not wrong. It's a fun read and each author adds her own special touches to the characters and events. It's out in hardcover, but totally worth the hardcover price. Don't wait for the paperback. Buy it now!
